AP or IB Teachers
This course meets the requirement for the 10 hour professional development course in characteristics of gifted learners and curriculum differentiation for gifted students described in the Georgia Resource Manual for Gifted Services for AP and IB teachers who do not already have the gifted endorsement. Teachers will experience interactive learning as they:
  • Analyze the characteristics of gifted and talented students, including those from diverse backgrounds, and the implications for the AP/IB Classroom
  • Gain a deeper understanding of gifted students’ social and emotional needs, especially stress and underachievement
  • Understand the history of gifted education in Georgia and the quest for equity in access to rigor
  • Determine gifted eligibility in Georgia
  • Examine the research about motivation and mindset and apply to AP/IB classroom
  • Discuss when standards-based grading is appropriate in the AP/IB classroom
  • Identify ways to employ strategies and principles of differentiation based on student readiness, as well as areas we might target for additional growth in differentiating instruction
  • Explain and implement a variety of strategies for differentiating instruction according to the readiness levels of students
  • Adapt resources, activities, and assessments to increase enrichment/rigor and provide appropriate scaffolding for AP/IB students
